President Anura Kumara Dissanayake chaired the meeting.
The team discussed three things yesterday (15). First, how far the 2026 projects have come. Second, which projects will finish within this year.
And third, how much money the Ministry will need for 2027.
One project got special attention. The President reviewed the Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) project running on the islands of Delft, Analaitivu and Nainativu.
He then instructed officials to develop and promote these three islands as Green Energy Islands.
In addition, the discussion focused on restarting energy projects that started with help from JICA. These projects stopped in the middle due to the economic crisis. Therefore, officials also discussed how much budget they will need for these projects in 2027.
Moreover, the President reviewed several other major power projects that are ongoing and planned.
- These include the second 220 kV underground transmission cable from Kerawalapitiya to the Port of Colombo, the Sampur–Kappalthurai Electricity Transmission Development Project, the new Habarana–Kappalthurai Transmission Development Project (CEATP), the installation of a STATCOM system at the Padukka 220 kV Grid Substation, and the Rooftop Solar Power Integration and Virtual Net Metering Project.
The petroleum sector was also on the agenda. The President reviewed the progress and future funding needs of 14 major projects in that sector.
- The team is building six new storage tanks at the Kolonnawa Oil Storage Complex.
- Also, they are building two new tanks and expanding storage at the Muthurajawela Fuel Storage Complex.
- In addition, they are rehabilitating old tanks at Kolonnawa and developing filling facilities in Zone 07 of the Kolonnawa complex.
Finally, the President stressed one point. He said all these projects must finish on time so the public gets real benefits.
