People in Badulla will see development work at 100 selected temples and religious sites under the Sasunodaya programme. The programme has set aside Rs. 50 million for these sites. It forms part of a wider Rs. 100 million programme for religious institutions across Uva Province.
Officials presented the Badulla funding at an event held at the Bandarawela Municipal Council auditorium on October 23.
100 Religious Sites Included
Under the programme, 100 selected religious sites in Badulla will receive development support. The wider Sasunodaya programme aims to improve religious institutions across Uva Province. Government support will help the programme continue its work in the region.
Minister of Plantation Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyarathna and Uva Province Governor Kapila Jayasekara attended the event.
For Badulla, the Rs. 50 million allocation covers a large number of religious sites across the district. However, officials have not yet given details about the exact work planned at each location.
Sasunodaya to Continue Across Uva
The Rs. 100 million funding programme covers religious institutions across the province. Meanwhile, organisers say Sasunodaya will continue in Uva in the coming years. More religious sites could therefore receive support as the programme moves forward.
The programme also aims to support the Buddha Sasana through the development of religious institutions.
