Bogawantalawa Tea Enters Saudi Arabia’s Leading Supermarket Chain

Bogawantalawa Tea has expanded its international retail presence by entering Tamimi Markets, one of Saudi Arabia’s largest supermarket chains, strengthening the position of premium Ceylon Tea in one of Sri Lanka’s most important export destinations.

The launch took place in Riyadh on 9 July, giving Saudi consumers wider access to Bogawantalawa Tea’s range of premium products through Tamimi Markets’ nationwide retail network.

How Expanding Ceylon Tea’s Reach?

Speaking at the launch, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, said Saudi Arabia remains one of the most important overseas markets for Ceylon Tea. He noted that expanding the presence of premium Sri Lankan brands in major retail chains would help strengthen the country’s export performance.

The Ambassador also proposed establishing a dedicated “Sri Lanka Corner” within Tamimi Markets to showcase a broader range of premium Sri Lankan products.

Bogawantalawa Tea Ceylon Co-Chairman Lalith Kumar Ambani said the company brings more than a century of tea-growing heritage to international consumers. He noted that the partnership enables more Saudi customers to experience authentic premium Ceylon Tea.

The company also highlighted its continued investment in product innovation and estate community development as part of its long-term growth strategy.

About the Market

Saudi Arabia is one of Sri Lanka’s key tea export markets, making greater access to established retail chains an important step in building brand visibility and increasing export opportunities.

Expanding distribution through modern supermarkets also allows Sri Lankan brands to compete more effectively in the premium tea segment, where consumer demand continues to grow.

The launch is expected to support wider market penetration for Bogawantalawa Tea while opening opportunities for more Sri Lankan food and beverage brands to enter leading retail outlets across Saudi Arabia.
