Parliament to Debate EV Permit Scheme, Import Rules

Parliament will debate the overseas workers’ electric vehicle (EV) permit scheme, import regulations, and findings from COPE and COPA when it meets from 21 to 24 July.

EV Permit Scheme Among Key Debates

  • On 21 July, Parliament will debate two special motions. One seeks to refer the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) report on the overseas workers’ EV import permit scheme to the Attorney General.
  • The second motion proposes referring matters identified by the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for legal action where necessary.

The House will also debate an adjournment motion on the performance of the Committee on Public Petitions later that day.

What on Agenda?

  • On 22 July, Parliament will mainly take up 50 oral questions, along with questions under Standing Orders and adjournment questions.
  • On 23 July, Members of Parliament will debate two regulations issued under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act before taking up a government adjournment motion.
  • The final sitting on 24 July will focus on private members’ motions, followed by an opposition adjournment motion.

Several key policy and accountability matters are expected to come before Parliament during the four-day sitting, with debates on the EV permit scheme, import regulations and committee findings likely to attract close public attention.
