Rs. 9.9 Billion Urban Housing Project Delivers 1,000 Apartments in Stadiumgama

A Rs. 9.866 billion urban housing project has delivered 1,000 new apartments in Stadiumgama under the Colombo Urban Regeneration Project.

The Urban Development Authority (UDA) implemented the 15-storey Port View Residencies complex.

Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake and Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara attended the handover ceremony on September 15.

The project received funding through a loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Each apartment covers 500 square feet. The complex also includes facilities for health, childcare, community services and recreation.

These facilities include a health centre, community hall, daycare centre and police post.

The complex also has a Grama Niladhari office, fire unit and supermarket. Residents will also have access to a children’s park and sports facilities.

The government formally handed the completed complex over to the public on September 15.

Further infrastructure work is planned around the development. The plans include upgrades to the area’s road and canal networks.

Authorities also plan to build a new community hall and improve the existing playground. The additional work could expand the benefits of the housing project beyond the 1,000 apartments.

The project forms part of wider efforts to develop urban housing and related infrastructure.
