MAS Holdings has unveiled the kits that Team Sri Lanka will wear at the 20th Asian Games in Japan.
The Games will run from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya. MAS worked with the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC Sri Lanka) to create the kits.
The two sides presented the kits on September 9 at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in Colombo.
Kits for 20 Sports
MAS will provide clothing for athletes across 20 sports at the Games.
These include archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, cricket, golf, gymnastics, rowing, rugby, sailing, squash, surfing, table tennis, beach volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, hockey, basketball, wushu and kabaddi.
Each sport places different demands on athletes. Therefore, MAS made different kits to support movement, fit and comfort in each sport.
At the same time, all the kits keep the same Team Sri Lanka look.
The full range has four types of kits: Casual, Podium, Travel and sport-specific performance kits. Together, they cover travel to Japan, training, competition and podium events.
Ocean Currents Inspire the Kits
The design takes its idea from the ocean currents around the island.
The movement of the waves reflects the drive and strength of the athletes. It also represents the energy they will take into the Games.
Arosh Fernando, Director – Product Innovation at Bodywear, MAS Holdings, said the design and innovation teams worked closely with the NOC.
“Our design and innovation teams have worked closely with the NOC to build a range of garments that perform well while displaying a strong sense of Sri Lankan identity,” Fernando said.
He said the ocean-current design was a good fit for the athletes. It reflects the energy and strength they will carry into the Games, he said.
MAS Supports Local Athletes
Rajiv Dharmendra, Chief Executive Officer at Bodywear, MAS Holdings, said the company’s role goes beyond making sports clothing.
“Yes, it is about manufacturing capability and expertise, but for us it is also about passion and commitment,” Dharmendra said.
He said MAS wants to help local athletes compete at their best on the world stage.
“Clothing and performance garments should be an enabler in their achievements, and we are grateful for the opportunity to offer that,” he said.
Over the years, MAS has also made sports clothing for national teams in several sports.
As Team Sri Lanka prepares for the Games, MAS will provide clothing for athletes from their journey to Japan through training, competition and medal events.
