BPC is providing the payments infrastructure behind DFCC Bank’s ATM and Cash Recycler Machine (CRM) experience, which is now available in eight languages.
The service allows customers to select their preferred language at the start of a transaction. The available options are English, Sinhala, Tamil, French, Chinese, Russian, Hindi and German.
The multilingual experience is available across DFCC Bank’s ATM and CRM network. This includes locations with high levels of international and tourist activity, such as the arrivals terminal at Bandaranaike International Airport, Ella, Arugam Bay and Hiriketiya.
BPC’s next-generation SmartVista platform supports the technology behind the service. The implementation includes ATM, CRM, card-switching and card-issuing infrastructure.
DFCC Bank developed the multilingual service in response to customer needs as more international visitors arrive from different markets. The bank identified language as a potential barrier when visitors use an unfamiliar banking interface to access cash.
For international visitors, the service allows them to use an ATM in a familiar language. This can make cash withdrawals easier and reduce uncertainty during an essential financial transaction.
Local customers can also use the service in Sinhala, Tamil or English.
DFCC Bank also reviewed the wider customer journey as part of the implementation. This included the language selection process, screen instructions and transaction prompts. The aim was to make the experience clear and easy to follow.
Subash Chandra Bowse, Country Director for Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Maldives at BPC, said the project combines payments technology with a clear customer need.
“DFCC Bank brought a clear and ambitious vision to this transformation: to strengthen its payments foundation while making self-service banking more relevant and accessible to the people using it,” he said.
He said the eight-language ATM and CRM service shows how that approach has become a practical customer benefit. He added that SmartVista provides the infrastructure supporting the initiative and DFCC Bank’s wider digital plans.
Vindya Solangaarachchi, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of DFCC Bank, said technology should make everyday banking easier.
“Technology creates the greatest value when it removes difficulty from an everyday experience,” she said.
She said an ATM may be one of the first interactions a visitor has with the country. Being able to complete a transaction in a familiar language can give visitors greater confidence, she said.

Solangaarachchi also highlighted the importance of providing self-service banking in Sinhala, Tamil and English for local customers.
The implementation reflects a wider focus on connecting payments infrastructure with the customer experience. While SmartVista supports the technology behind each transaction, DFCC Bank’s multilingual interface determines how customers interact with the service.
Together, the two elements provide DFCC Bank with an expanded self-service banking platform for both local customers and international visitors.
