A total of 1,500 school athletes have been selected to receive monthly nutrition allowances under the government’s Kreeda Shakthi programme, with each beneficiary receiving Rs. 100,000 over a 10-month period.
Under the scheme, each athlete will receive Rs. 10,000 per month from March to December to support nutrition and athletic development.
Athletes Selected Through Performance Criteria
Recipients were selected based on their performances at the 2025 National School Games, provincial-level competitions, and international sporting events.
The programme is aimed at supporting young athletes and developing the country’s future sports talent pool.
Government Pledges Support for Athletes
Addressing the event, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage said the government is committed to ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent talented athletes from continuing their sporting careers.
“We will not allow any talented athlete to stop their journey due to economic hardships or a shortage of sports equipment. If you face any shortcomings, inform the Ministry directly. We are ready to provide all necessary facilities,” the minister said.
The programme forms part of ongoing efforts to provide financial and nutritional support to young athletes competing at school, provincial and international levels.
