Jetstar Australian airlines are expected to begin direct flights to Sri Lanka from August, a move that could strengthen tourism, trade and business links between the two countries.
According to the Minister, the introduction of direct flights by Australian carriers is expected to support the growth of tourism, encourage greater business engagement and strengthen people-to-people connections.
Improved air connectivity is also expected to benefit trade and investment by making travel easier for business travellers and investors from both countries.
At present, SriLankan Airlines operates direct services between Colombo and the Australian cities of Sydney and Melbourne, providing a key air link between the two markets.
The expected entry of Australian airlines would further expand travel options and increase seat capacity on routes connecting the two countries.
The development comes as authorities continue efforts to attract more international visitors and strengthen economic ties with key overseas markets.
