Sampath Bank Supports Lady Ridgeway Hospital with Key Upgrades for Children’s Care

Sampath Bank Supports Lady Ridgeway Hospital with Key Upgrades for Children’s Care

Children receiving treatment at Lady Ridgeway Hospital will benefit from several facility upgrades after Sampath Bank supported improvements aimed at enhancing patient care and creating a more welcoming hospital environment.

The project was carried out by the Sampath Bank Employees’ Union, together with the Bank’s Sustainability Unit, as part of the Union’s 35th anniversary celebrations.

Supporting Sri Lanka’s Largest Children’s Hospital

Lady Ridgeway Hospital is Sri Lanka’s largest free children’s hospital and serves as the country’s main referral centre for specialized pediatric care.

Every day, children from across the island visit the hospital for treatment, making well-maintained facilities an important part of delivering quality healthcare.

Recognizing these needs, Sampath Bank supported a series of improvements that will benefit both patients and hospital staff.

What are the Upgrades to Improve Patient Care?

The initiative included the refurbishment of a blood filtration machine, helping ensure that essential medical equipment remains available for patient treatment.

The Bank also funded the installation of air conditioning in the Physiotherapy Unit, providing a more comfortable environment for children receiving therapy.

In addition, new directional signboards have been installed across the hospital to help visitors find clinics and wards more easily. The project also introduced child-friendly decorations, creating a brighter and more comforting atmosphere for young patients and their families.

Why These Improvements Matter?

Hospital visits can be stressful, especially for children. Small improvements such as clearer signage, comfortable treatment areas and child-friendly surroundings can make the experience less intimidating for both patients and parents.

Maintaining medical equipment is equally important, as it helps hospitals continue providing uninterrupted treatment to children who need specialized care.

The project formed part of the 35th anniversary of the Sampath Bank Employees’ Union and reflects the Bank’s continued support for community initiatives through its sustainability programs.

The handover ceremony was attended by Sampath Bank Chief Operating Officer Deepal de Silva, Sampath Bank Employees’ Union President Kalpa Jayasinghe, members of the Bank’s staff, and Lady Ridgeway Hospital Director Dr. Pradeep Rathnasekara, together with hospital officials.
