A new digital payment system has been introduced at the Peliyagoda Manning Market as part of a programme to modernise market operations.
The Ministry of Digital Economy said the initiative is aimed at making daily financial transactions at the market more organised and efficient.
The system was inaugurated today under the patronage of Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weerarathna, and Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara, with implementation facilitated by the Urban Development Authority.
The web-based platform, accessible via fmis.uda.lk, enables traders and businesses to make tax payments and carry out other daily transactions using their mobile phones.
Officials said the system is expected to improve transparency and streamline financial processes within the market.
The government plans to expand the digital payment platform to other major economic centres in the future as part of a broader digital transformation programme.
