“Don’t Just Support Sri Lanka’s Recovery, Be Part of Its Growth”: Deputy Minister

Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe has invited global investors to join Sri Lanka’s next phase of economic growth.

“Don’t just support Sri Lanka’s recovery, be part of its growth,” Abeysinghe said at the NDTV World Summit 2026 in New Delhi. He made the remarks during a discussion titled “Sri Lanka’s Economic Reset: Recovery, Resilience and the Road Ahead.”

Abeysinghe said Sri Lanka is now moving from economic recovery towards long-term growth. He highlighted opportunities in trade, industry, technology, research and skilled jobs.

18 New Industrial Zones Planned

The Deputy Minister said the Government plans to establish 18 new industrial zones. The Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development will develop 11 of them. The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka will develop the other seven.

These zones aim to expand industrial capacity and create more opportunities for local and foreign businesses.

Abeysinghe also called on foreign companies to build partnerships with local businesses. He pointed to investment, technology transfer and access to overseas markets as key areas for cooperation.

Focus on New Investment Partnerships

He highlighted several sectors where India and Sri Lanka could build stronger business links. These include manufacturing, farm product processing, logistics, renewable energy, marine industries and technology.

Abeysinghe also spoke about steps to make investment easier. These include simpler investment procedures, digital public services and clearer rules.

He said economic reforms, better governance, digital services and industrial development will help build long-term economic strength.

His message to global investors was direct: look beyond Sri Lanka’s recovery and take part in its growth.
