Dilip de S Wijeyeratne has become Deputy Chairman of Sampath Bank PLC, effective 10 September 2026.
Wijeyeratne brings wide experience in banking, finance, risk, compliance, investment banking and treasury.
His appointment comes as the bank focuses on technology, data, innovation and business growth. He will also support the bank’s use of data and artificial intelligence in its decision-making.
Nearly Eight Years at Sampath Bank
Wijeyeratne has worked with Sampath Bank for nearly eight years. He joined the bank’s board as a Non-Independent, Non-Executive Director in November 2018. Then, in August 2019, he became an Independent Director.
He served as Senior Independent Director from May 2022. From June 2026, he continued as an Independent, Non-Executive Director.
He also chairs the Board Audit Committee. In addition, he serves on the Sustainability, Human Resources and Remuneration, Treasury, Strategic Planning, Nominations and Governance, and Related Party Transactions Review committees.
Banking and Finance Experience
Wijeyeratne is a senior finance and banking professional and principal consultant. He advises organisations across the Middle East, Sri Lanka and Australia.
Earlier in his career, he held senior roles with HSBC Group in Bahrain. His work there covered finance and operations, global markets and treasury, corporate treasury sales, and asset and liability management.
Later, he moved into business and advisory work. He has since provided financial and strategic advice to private and public sector organisations.
In addition to his work at Sampath Bank, Wijeyeratne serves as Senior Independent Director of Singer (Sri Lanka) PLC and Hayleys Fibre PLC.
He also serves as an Independent, Non-Executive Director of Janashakthi Insurance PLC.
These roles have given him experience in financial oversight, risk, business strategy and corporate governance.
Professional Qualifications
Wijeyeratne is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
He is also a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK, and a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
His financial and governance experience comes as Sampath Bank expands its focus on technology and data.
The bank is also looking at artificial intelligence to support better decisions and improve how it operates.
As Deputy Chairman, Wijeyeratne will bring his banking, finance and governance experience to the bank’s next phase of growth.
