Dollar Crosses Rs. 342 as Rupee Continues to Face Pressure

The rupee weakened further against the US dollar on Friday (05), with the Central Bank’s daily exchange rate indicator showing the dollar’s selling rate reaching Rs. 342.00.

According to the latest rates published by the Central Bank, the US dollar buying rate was recorded at Rs. 332.27, while the selling rate stood at Rs. 342.00.

The latest figures show a further increase compared to Thursday (04), when the buying rate was Rs. 330.10 and the selling rate was Rs. 340.50.

What the Latest Movement Suggests

Currency movements are closely watched because they affect import costs, fuel prices, business expenses, and inflation. A weaker rupee also increases the cost of settling foreign currency obligations for importers and businesses.

Recent market discussions have focused on several factors influencing the exchange rate, including higher fuel import costs, demand for foreign currency from importers, and changing market expectations regarding the direction of the rupee.
