Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said the emergency funding will support humanitarian assistance through international aid agencies. The aid will cover food supplies and essential daily items for affected communities.
Severe floods and landslides triggered by a cyclone in late November caused extensive damage across several regions. Official reports confirmed that more than 600 people lost their lives due to the disaster.
Speaking at a press conference, Motegi said Japan plans to continue its support during the recovery phase. He described the assistance as part of a long-standing partnership aimed at ensuring early recovery and reconstruction.
The minister also confirmed that a Japanese disaster relief medical team has completed its assignment. The team returned earlier this week after providing around 1,250 medical treatments during a two-week deployment.
Japanese authorities said coordination with international partners will continue as relief efforts shift toward rebuilding and longer-term recovery.
