People buying Litro gas in November will pay the same prices as last month, while the Government looks for ways to ease a shortage affecting LAUGFS customers.
Litro Gas Lanka has confirmed that its domestic gas prices will remain unchanged throughout November. The company said it would hold prices despite higher international gas prices and difficult foreign exchange conditions.
For consumers, the 12.5kg Litro cylinder will remain at Rs. 4,365. The 5kg cylinder will cost Rs. 1,750, while the 2.3kg cylinder will remain at Rs. 815.
How Much Will Litro Gas Cost in November?
The November prices are:
- 12.5kg cylinder — Rs. 4,365
- 5kg cylinder — Rs. 1,750
- 2.3kg cylinder — Rs. 815
For households using Litro, there is therefore no price increase for November.
However, price is not the only concern for gas buyers. Availability has become a bigger issue as LAUGFS Gas has stopped supplying domestic gas to the market, according to Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development R. M. Jayawardena.
What Is Happening With LAUGFS Gas?
LAUGFS customers have faced difficulties obtaining cylinders, with the shortage continuing for several months. The disruption has pushed more consumers towards Litro, increasing pressure on its distribution network.
Jayawardena said Litro’s share of the country’s total gas supply has increased from 80% to 83% as it responds to the shortage.
He also said discussions are underway to provide Litro gas to LAUGFS customers. Legal action has been taken against LAUGFS over the inconvenience caused to consumers, he added.
Ceylon Today has separately reported that the Government is considering allowing Litro Gas to refill LAUGFS cylinders if LAUGFS continues to fail to maintain an uninterrupted supply.
That proposal is aimed at protecting consumers from a deeper domestic gas shortage. However, it remains a Government consideration and should not be treated as a confirmed arrangement yet.
What Does This Mean for Gas Buyers?
Litro customers have some price certainty for November, with all three domestic cylinder prices unchanged.
LAUGFS customers face a different situation because increased Litro supply does not automatically solve the problem for people who have LAUGFS cylinders.
A LAUGFS cylinder cannot simply be exchanged for a Litro cylinder under the current situation. That makes the Government’s discussions important for consumers who are unable to obtain LAUGFS refills.
For now, the confirmed position is clear: Litro prices remain unchanged in November, while authorities are looking at ways to address the supply problem affecting LAUGFS customers.
