Tourist Arrivals in 2026 Near 1.83 Million as India Drives October Demand

Tourist arrivals reached 136,096 in the first 25 days of October, with India accounting for about 38% of visitors during the month.

The latest figures from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) take total tourist arrivals for 2026 to 1,829,772.

For hotels, travel agencies, tour operators, airlines and other tourism businesses, the figures also show which international markets are driving visitor demand.

India Remains the Main Tourism Market

India continued to be the largest source market in October, with 51,424 arrivals during the first 25 days.

This represented around 38% of all tourist arrivals recorded during the period.

The United Kingdom was the second-largest market, with 10,117 arrivals. China followed with 9,411 visitors.

Australia and Germany completed the top five markets, recording 6,844 and 6,269 arrivals respectively.

This market mix gives tourism businesses a clear view of the countries contributing most to visitor numbers during October.

India Leads 2026 Arrivals

India has also remained the largest source market for the year so far.

From January to October, 488,838 Indian tourists arrived, followed by 170,844 visitors from the United Kingdom.

China recorded 121,961 arrivals, while Germany contributed 103,547 and Australia recorded 93,833.

Together, these figures show the main international markets supporting tourism activity in 2026.

For businesses across hotels, travel, transport, food and other tourism services, the latest data provides a useful picture of where visitors are coming from.

With total arrivals now approaching 1.83 million, the remaining months of the year will add to the 2026 visitor total and provide further data on the performance of each source market.
