Tourism Arrivals Pass 1.8 Million, With India Leading Visitor Demand

According to the latest data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the total tourist arrivals have passed 1,813,484 between January 1 and October 22, 2026.

For hotels, travel companies, tour operators and other tourism businesses, the figures show the size of the visitor market so far this year and the countries driving demand.

India Remains the Main Source Market

India continues to account for the largest share of tourist arrivals in 2026.

A total of 482,944 Indian tourists visited the country between January 1 and October 22.

India also led arrivals during October. Between October 1 and October 22, 45,530 Indian tourists arrived.

This keeps India as the main source market for tourism businesses during the year so far.

UK, China and Germany Also Drive Arrivals

The United Kingdom was the second-largest source market, with 169,405 arrivals during the year.

China followed with 120,980 arrivals, while Germany recorded 102,920 arrivals.

Together, these markets add to the visitor base available to hotels, travel agencies, tour operators, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses.

Meanwhile, 119,805 tourists arrived between October 1 and October 22.

The latest figures therefore give tourism businesses a current view of both total visitor numbers and the main markets behind them.

With arrivals now above 1.8 million, the next monthly data will show how visitor numbers develop through the rest of the year.
