US Dollar Selling Rate Rises to Rs.335.48 as Rupee Weakens

The US Dollar selling rate has risen to Rs.335.48 against the Sri Lankan Rupee today, September 16, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The rate increased from Rs.333.84 recorded on Tuesday.

The Central Bank’s buying rate also moved higher, rising to Rs.326.31 from Rs.324.80.

The latest figures show a Rs.1.64 increase in the Dollar selling rate and a Rs.1.51 increase in the buying rate compared with the previous day.

Dollar rate moves higher

The buying rate is the rate at which the bank buys US Dollars, while the selling rate is the rate at which the bank sells US Dollars.

For consumers and businesses buying Dollars, the higher selling rate means more Rupees are needed to purchase the same amount of US currency at the CBSL reference rates.

The Rupee also recorded slight movements against a number of other currencies, including currencies used in the Gulf region.

Daily exchange-rate movements are important for people and businesses that need foreign currency for payments, imports, travel and other transactions.

The latest CBSL figures therefore show another day of movement in the Rupee-Dollar exchange rate, with the Dollar selling rate now above the Rs.335 level.
