New Chinese Ambassador Meets Ranil Wickremesinghe in Colombo

New Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Wei Huaxiang has met former President Ranil Wickremesinghe at his political office on Flower Road, Colombo.

The meeting was Ambassador Wei’s first official engagement with Wickremesinghe since taking up his post in Colombo, according to the report.

Wei was accompanied by Deputy Ambassador Zhu Yanwei, Counsellor Mei Jing and Third Secretary Jin Enze.

The meeting comes as the newly appointed ambassador begins a series of engagements with Sri Lankan political and state leaders.

Earlier, Wei met Speaker of Parliament Jagath Wickramaratne, with discussions covering China-Sri Lanka relations, parliamentary exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Wei also met former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on September 10. That meeting included discussions on Sri Lanka-China relations and cooperation between the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and the Communist Party of China.

China appointed Wei Huaxiang as its new Ambassador to Sri Lanka in August, replacing Qi Zhenhong.
