Construction is set to resume on a stalled housing project for families living in a high-risk landslide area in Dambethenna.
The Maussagolla Disaster Housing Project in the Dambethenna Grama Niladhari Division began in 2019 but later stopped before the houses were completed.
The first phase of the project includes 65 houses for residents of the Maussagolla Estate section. These families continue to live in an area identified as vulnerable to landslides.
34 Houses Have Foundations
Work has already started on all 65 houses, but each has reached a different stage.
- Foundations have been laid for 34 houses.
- Another 24 houses are ready for roofing,
- While roofing has already been completed on the remaining seven houses.
Authorities are now taking steps to restart construction and move the project forward.
A site inspection took place on Saturday, September 12, under the leadership of Badulla District Secretary Sunil Galagama.

Army Support Considered
Galagama said the project could receive the expertise and labour of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Services Corps to speed up construction.
He also instructed officials to take steps to provide the basic infrastructure needed for the new housing area.
This includes water supply, electricity and roads.
For residents who have been waiting since construction began in 2019, the resumption of work could bring the project closer to completion.
The housing project is intended for families who continue to live in a landslide-risk area, making the progress of the homes a matter of both housing and safety.
