Russian Builders Explore Investment and Employment Opportunities in Sri Lanka

A delegation representing Russia’s largest construction association is exploring investment opportunities in Sri Lanka while also discussing new employment prospects for Sri Lankan construction professionals.

The 24-member delegation from the National Association of Builders (NOSTROY) of the Russian Federation is visiting Sri Lanka from 22 to 25 July under the facilitation of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation.

During the visit, the delegation met Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Arun Hemachandra and Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe to discuss opportunities to expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

Welcoming the delegation, Acting Minister Hemachandra highlighted the longstanding ties between Sri Lanka and Russia and said closer cooperation in infrastructure development, investment and skilled labour mobility could deliver economic benefits to both countries. Deputy Minister Ranasinghe also presented investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, particularly in hotel development and tourism infrastructure projects.

Focus on Investment and Infrastructure

Led by NOSTROY Vice President Anton Moroz, the delegation also held discussions with the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, the Urban Development Authority and the Board of Investment (BOI).

The discussions focused on potential collaboration in infrastructure and urban development projects, while government agencies outlined investment opportunities available to foreign investors.

NOSTROY represents more than half of the construction companies operating in Russia and internationally. The association plays a leading role in promoting innovation, industry standards and international cooperation within the construction sector.

Expanding Employment Opportunities

The delegation also met officials from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) to explore opportunities for qualified Sri Lankan construction professionals to work in the Russian Federation.

The discussions reflected growing interest in strengthening cooperation beyond investment by creating new overseas employment opportunities for Sri Lankan skilled workers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said the visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of Sri Lanka and Russia to deepen cooperation in investment, infrastructure development, tourism and foreign employment.
