CBSL: Dollar Selling Rate Climbs Above Rs. 337

Currency market movements showed mixed trends, with the rupee recording gains against selected Gulf currencies despite weakening against the dollar and several major international currencies.

The rupee weakened against the US dollar on June 11th after recent gains, with Central Bank exchange rate data showing a rise in both buying and selling rates compared to the previous day.

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the dollar buying rate increased from Rs. 324.66 to Rs. 327.67, while the selling rate rose from Rs. 335.39 to Rs. 337.82.

Rupee Weakens Against Major Currencies

The rupee also depreciated against several major foreign currencies.

Central Bank data showed losses against the Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, euro, pound sterling and Swiss franc.

The movement indicates broader weakness in the local currency against a basket of major international currencies during the day.

Gains Recorded Against Some Gulf Currencies

Despite the depreciation against the US dollar and other major currencies, the rupee strengthened against several Gulf currencies.

The local currency appreciated against the Bahraini dinar, Kuwaiti dinar and Omani rial, according to Central Bank exchange rate data.

The mixed performance reflects differing movements in global currency markets and regional exchange rate trends.
