Overall inflation, measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI), rose to 2.3 percent year-on-year in January 2026, compared to 2.1 percent in December 2025.
Data shows that the increase was driven mainly by higher food prices.
The Food Group inflation rate rose to 3.3 percent in January 2026, up from 3.0 percent in December 2025.
Meanwhile, the Non-Food Group inflation rate remained unchanged at 1.8 percent in January, the same level recorded in December.
Officials said the figures reflect moderate price pressures, with food items contributing more to the overall increase, while non-food prices stayed stable.
The latest data suggests inflation remains under control, despite slight upward movement in food costs at the start of the year.
