The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has formally established a Tax Policy Analysis Unit (TPAU) under the Department of Fiscal Policy.
The new Unit will strengthen tax policy design and reform through evidence-based analysis and internationally accepted methods.
According to the Ministry, the core functions of the TPAU include revenue analysis, economic and distributional studies of tax policies, and evaluation of tax expenditures.
The Unit will also engage with key stakeholders and provide analysis and support on international taxation, as well as regional and global tax cooperation.
Officials said the TPAU will play a key role in the design, appraisal, and monitoring of future tax policy reforms.
IMF Supports Capacity Building
To mark the establishment of the Unit, the first capacity-building training programme for the TPAU was conducted by the International Monetary Fund from January 19 to January 30, 2026.
At the conclusion of the programme, the IMF mission team met with the Secretary to the Treasury and the Director General of the Department of Fiscal Policy.
Discussions focused on the operationalisation of the Unit and its role in strengthening evidence-based tax policy reforms.
Officials said the collaboration with the IMF will help ensure that the new Unit operates in line with international best practices and supports long-term fiscal stability.
