The training programme began today (January 26) after an investment of €1.1 million.
According to railway officials, the new centre includes a Simulator Cabin, eight Training Desks, and six Observation Desks.
They said the aim is to improve the quality of training and shorten the time needed to prepare new drivers. In the past, driver training took more than three years to complete.
With the simulator system, trainees can gain practical experience in a controlled setting. Officials said this will help new drivers become ready for duty faster and more safely.
Deputy Minister of Transport Dr. Prasanna Gunasena attended the launch and tested the new training equipment.
Railway authorities believe the new system will strengthen driver skills and support safer train operations across the network.
