Short Eats and Parata Prices Set to Increase After Rs.13 Wheat Flour Hike

Short Eats and Parata Prices Set to Increase After Rs.13 Wheat Flour Hike

Prices of short eats, including paratha and egg roti, will increase by Rs.5 from midnight today (21), according to the All Ceylon Canteen and Restaurant Owners’ Association.

The decision follows a Rs.13 per kilogram increase in wheat flour prices announced by importers on October 20.

Rs.5 Increase for Short Eats

Association Chairman Harshana Rukshan said the price revision was decided after the increase in wheat flour prices.

The new rate will apply from midnight, meaning customers will see the Rs.5 increase from October 22.

Wheat Flour Costs Push Prices Higher

Wheat flour is a key ingredient in several short eats and bakery-style food items sold by canteens and restaurants. Importers increased the price of a kilogram of wheat flour by Rs.13, prompting the association to review prices.

The association had earlier said its board would determine the revised prices. It has now confirmed the Rs.5 increase for short eats such as paratha and egg roti.
