Country’sexpressways generated a record Rs. 355 million in revenue during the five-day holiday period last week, as vehicle traffic remained high across the network.

Road Development Authority (RDA) Director General Anuradha Hettiarachchi said the revenue was recorded during the five-day holiday period.

The expressways also brought in more than Rs. 408 million in total revenue during the week from August 24 to 30.

A total of 1,095,895 vehicles travelled on the expressway network during that seven-day period.

More Than 1 Million Vehicles

The weekly figures cover four major expressways.

These are the Southern Expressway, Colombo–Katunayake Expressway, Colombo Outer Circular Highway and Central Expressway.

The traffic during the week shows the level of vehicle movement across the expressway network during the holiday period.

The five-day revenue figure of Rs. 355 million also accounts for most of the Rs. 408 million collected during the full week.

The latest figures give an indication of how vehicle traffic translates into toll revenue for the expressway network.

The RDA has described the Rs. 355 million collected during the five-day holiday period as a record for such a period.
