The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has determined that Singhe Capital Investment Limited accepted deposits from the public in violation of the Finance Business Act, No. 42 of 2011.
Following an inquiry, the Central Bank identified the company and the individuals who served as its directors during the relevant period as being responsible for the violation.
Accordingly, CBSL has directed Singhe Capital Investment Limited and its directors to immediately refrain from accepting deposits from the public.
The Central Bank said the action was taken after investigations found that the company had engaged in deposit-taking activities without the required authorization under the Finance Business Act.
CBSL also advised the public to exercise caution when dealing with institutions that are not authorized to accept deposits.
The regulator urged individuals to verify the regulatory status of financial institutions before making deposits or investment decisions.
According to the Central Bank, members of the public should ensure that any institution accepting deposits is properly regulated and authorized to conduct such activities.
The Central Bank regularly publishes information on licensed banks and authorized finance companies and encourages the public to check the status of institutions before committing funds.
