Government authorities and businesses will be watching closely as the review could influence the next phase of economic reforms.

IMF Team to Arrive on June 24 to Assess Reform Progress

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation will visit Sri Lanka from June 24 to 30 for a staff-level mission to assess the country’s ongoing economic reform programme.

The visit comes as the government continues implementing reforms linked to the IMF program. The discussions are expected to focus on recent economic developments and the progress made against agreed reform targets.

The delegation will be led by IMF Mission Chief for Sri Lanka, Evan Papageorgiou.

According to Papageorgiou, the IMF team will meet government authorities and a broad group of stakeholders during the week-long mission.

The discussions will review economic conditions and evaluate the implementation of reforms under the programme.

Focus on Reform Progress

The IMF review forms part of the regular assessment process carried out under the programme.

During the visit, the delegation is expected to examine developments across key areas of the economy and engage with stakeholders involved in the reform process.

For policymakers, businesses, and investors, the outcome of the discussions will provide an indication of how the reform agenda is progressing and the areas that may require further attention.

Sri Lanka’s economic programme has focused on fiscal reforms, revenue measures, public sector reforms and efforts to improve macroeconomic stability.

Meetings Scheduled Until June 30

The IMF delegation will remain in the country until June 30.

According to Papageorgiou, the team looks forward to “constructive and productive discussions” with government representatives and other stakeholders during the visit.

The mission’s findings will contribute to the IMF’s ongoing assessment of the programme and the country’s progress in implementing agreed economic reforms.
