The local currency showed signs of stability on Thursday (18), offering some relief to importers and businesses exposed to foreign exchange costs.
According to the latest exchange rates released by the Central Bank, the Rupee appreciated against the US Dollar and several other major international currencies, reversing part of the pressure seen in recent weeks.
For businesses that depend on imported goods, raw materials, and fuel, a stronger Rupee can help reduce foreign currency costs and ease pressure on operating expenses.
Dollar Rate Moves Lower
- The Central Bank reported that the buying rate of the US Dollar declined from Rs. 330.02 on Wednesday to Rs. 329.18 on Thursday.
- The selling rate also eased from Rs. 339.90 to Rs. 339.06.
While the movement was modest, it indicates a slight strengthening of the Rupee against the world’s most traded currency.
Currency market movements are being closely watched by importers, exporters and investors following recent volatility in global financial markets.
Gains Seen Across Major Currencies
The Rupee also appreciated against a broader basket of foreign currencies.
These include:
- Australian Dollar
- Canadian Dollar
- Euro
- Sterling Pound
- Swiss Franc
The currency also strengthened against several Gulf currencies that are important for remittances and trade.
These include:
- Bahrain Dinar
- Kuwait Dinar
- Oman Rial
The latest appreciation could provide some support for businesses with foreign currency payment obligations, particularly those involved in imports and international trade.
However, analysts note that exchange rate movements continue to be influenced by global economic developments, capital flows, trade performance and foreign currency inflows.
Market participants will continue to monitor currency trends in the coming weeks as businesses assess the impact on import costs, export competitiveness and foreign exchange earnings.
