Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya said authorities are reviewing salary benefits for police officers. The proposal includes either a risk allowance or an increase in basic salaries.
Speaking Tuesday (3), the IGP said officials identified differences in the current allowance structure given to police personnel.
Therefore, authorities have started a review to improve the salary system within the police service.
According to the IGP, the committee will study the existing structure and recommend suitable changes.
Authorities will later decide whether officers should receive a basic salary increase or a separate risk allowance.
Officials say the review aims to improve compensation while recognising the risks faced by police officers in their duties.
