Pakistan will send an extra 200 tons of humanitarian supplies to support families affected by the recent cyclonic storm. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the decision on Thursday.
He said the move followed meetings with national leaders in Colombo and a direct review of conditions in hard-hit areas. He noted that the medium-term needs of affected communities continue to rise.
A shipment carrying 200 tons of relief items has already left by sea. It is expected to arrive on 13 December.
The consignment contains tents, blankets, quilts, mosquito nets, camping lamps, mats, life jackets, inflatable boats, dewatering pumps, medicines, milk powder, and therapeutic food.
The Pakistan Navy continues to support ongoing rescue and emergency operations. Its ships and aviation units are working with local authorities to assist communities in severely impacted districts.
The minister visited Colombo on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to convey Pakistan’s solidarity after Cyclone Ditwah.
He said Pakistan remains ready to help with humanitarian needs and infrastructure recovery.
