The Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products has reappointed Pushpika Janadheera as Chairman. The decision was confirmed at the Association’s 15th Annual General Meeting.
Janadheera is the Managing Director of Dipped Products PLC. His reappointment ensures leadership continuity during a challenging period for the rubber products sector.
Role of SLAMERP in the Rubber Industry
SLAMERP represents manufacturers and exporters of value-added rubber products. The sector generates around USD 1 billion in export earnings each year.
In addition, the Association supports market expansion and improved global access. It also engages in national policy discussions that affect long-term industry stability.
Policy Advocacy and Industry Challenges
Under Janadheera’s leadership, SLAMERP has taken strong positions on key policy issues.
For example, the Association called for urgent government engagement after the United States announced tariffs on rubber imports.
However, SLAMERP warned that such measures could weaken export competitiveness. It also highlighted risks to livelihoods across the rubber value chain.
Meanwhile, the Association raised concerns over proposals to remove the SVAT scheme. It said the change could create cash-flow pressure for SMEs and exporters. Therefore, SLAMERP stressed the need for a reliable refund mechanism.
Focus on Supply Chains and Smallholders
Beyond advocacy, SLAMERP continues to strengthen local supply chains. The Association also works to increase raw rubber production.
In addition, it focuses on uplifting smallholder communities that support the sector. SLAMERP works closely with the Ministry of Plantation Industries and the Export Development Board to expand market access.
Chairman’s Remarks on Industry Outlook
Commenting on his reappointment, Janadheera thanked members for their confidence. He said the industry faces a difficult global environment.
However, he stressed the importance of collaboration, innovation, and diversification. According to him, these steps are vital to improve competitiveness in value-added rubber products.
Professional Background of the Chairman
Janadheera joined Dipped Products PLC in 2017 as Director of Operations. He became Deputy Managing Director in 2020 and assumed his current role in 2023.
Earlier, he held senior positions at Richard Pieris Tyre Company and Associated Motorways. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a member of CIMA UK. He also holds a BSc in Accountancy and an MBA from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
New Office Bearers Introduced
The AGM also introduced proposed office bearers for the 2026–2027 term.
These include Dr. Eng. Sisira Ranatunga as Director General and Chinthaka Wegapitiya as Vice Chairman.
Channa De Silva was named Honorary Secretary. Palika Chandrajeewa was appointed Treasurer.
Outlook for the Sector
SLAMERP said it will continue advocating for the rubber sector. The Association aims to strengthen export competitiveness and support communities linked to this vital industry.
