University students can now get free spectacles and hearing aids through a new programme from the President’s Fund.
The first programme took place at Rajarata University on Saturday.
Students received free eye tests and prescription lenses. The programme also received support from private companies.
More Students to Get Support
The President’s Fund also has spectacle frames donated by private companies.
The Fund plans to give these frames to schoolchildren, university students and technical college students.
Low-income people will also receive free frames.
This support can help students who need spectacles but cannot afford them.
It can also help students who need hearing aids for their studies and daily activities.
Programme May Expand to More Universities
Roshan Gamage, Senior Additional Secretary to the President and Secretary to the President’s Fund, said the programme could reach universities across the country.
The programme could therefore give more students access to free eye and hearing support.
Gamage also said the President’s Fund has grown by 50% over the past two years.
He said better management helped the Fund improve its work.
The Fund now provides support to eligible people across the country.
For students, the key benefit is simple. They can get help with basic vision and hearing needs without paying the full cost themselves.
