Prices of several popular flour-based foods are going up after wheat flour prices increased by Rs. 17 per kilogram from August 29.
The All-Island Canteen Owners’ Association has announced a Rs. 5 increase for flour-based short eats, including parata and egg roti.
The price of a string hopper will rise by Re. 1, while a hopper will cost Rs. 2 more.
The new food prices follow the decision by Prima Ceylon and Serendib Flour Mills to increase wheat flour prices by Rs. 17 per kilogram.
Bread Prices Still Under Review
The higher flour cost could also affect the prices of bread and other bakery products.
However, no decision has been made yet.
The Central Committee of the All-Island Bakery Owners’ Association will meet on Monday, August 31, to discuss the impact of the flour price increase.
Association President N.K. Jayawardena said the committee will decide at the meeting whether to increase the prices of bread and other bakery products.
For consumers, the first changes are already clear, with higher prices for several everyday flour-based foods taking effect following the increase in wheat flour costs.
