The 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation plans to launch a motorcycle emergency response service to help medical teams reach patients faster.
The pilot programme will start in Colombo and other busy urban areas before the end of this year.
Why it matters?
Traffic often slows ambulances during medical emergencies. As a result, patients may wait longer for urgent treatment.
Suwa Seriya wants to use motorcycles to reach patients more quickly. The riders can provide first aid while an ambulance travels to the scene.
How the service will work?
Suwa Seriya will deploy specially trained emergency medical staff on motorcycles. Each motorcycle will carry essential medicines and basic emergency equipment.
The medical team will provide immediate care until an ambulance arrives. This approach can help patients receive treatment during the most critical minutes.
A quicker response
The new service aims to improve emergency care in areas where traffic or blocked roads delay ambulances.
If the pilot succeeds, Suwa Seriya could expand the service to more busy cities. A faster first response could help save more lives and improve emergency care across the country.
