Customs Crosses Rs. 2.2 Trillion Revenue Target Two Months Early – Chandana Punchihewa

Sri Lanka Customs has already collected Rs. 2,208 billion in revenue in 2026, crossing its full-year target with more than two months still left in the year.

Customs spokesman Chandana Punchihewa said the department reached the target on October 13, after collecting Rs. 2,208 billion against its annual target of Rs. 2,207 billion.

That puts Customs Rs. 1 billion above its target before the end of October.

Revenue Has Already Passed the Full-Year Target

The 2026 target was set at Rs. 2,207 billion, around 13.5% below the previous year’s revenue.

The lower target reflected expectations of weaker vehicle imports during the early part of 2026.

Despite this, Customs has already reached the full-year target and has done so for the second consecutive year.

In 2025, Customs had an initial revenue target of Rs. 2,115 billion. The target was later revised upward to Rs. 2,231 billion.

Customs ultimately collected Rs. 2,557.5 billion during 2025, according to its official revenue figures.

The 2025 collection was also about 64.6% higher than the previous year’s Rs. 1,553.5 billion.

Can Customs Beat Last Year’s Record?

The latest figure leaves Customs Rs. 349.535 billion short of its 2025 revenue, with more than two months still remaining in 2026.

That makes a new annual revenue record possible, although it will depend on how much revenue Customs collects during the remaining weeks of the year.

Analysts have suggested that Customs could pass last year’s total by the end of November if the current revenue flow continues and there are no major policy changes or disruptions.

For importers and businesses involved in international trade, the final figure will depend on import volumes, vehicle imports and the policies affecting customs revenue during the rest of the year.

With the full-year target already behind it, the focus now shifts from whether Customs will meet its 2026 target to how far above that target it can finish the year.
