Two Senior Appointments Reshape Leadership at Motor Traffic Department and CID

Two senior appointments have changed the leadership of the Department of Motor Traffic and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Thushara Indunil Fernando has taken over as the new Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic.

At the same time, senior police officer Roshan Amarasinghe has been appointed Director of the CID.

New Commissioner General takes over Motor Traffic

Fernando assumed duties on September 1 at the Department of Motor Traffic’s head office on Elvitigala Mawatha, Colombo 05.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena attended the official commencement of his duties.

Fernando took office following religious observances led by Ven. Kirinde Assaji Thero, Chief Incumbent of Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo.

He previously served in the Sri Lanka Air Force and retired as an Air Vice Marshal.

Amarasinghe appointed CID Director

Meanwhile, Roshan Amarasinghe has been appointed the new Director of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The Police Media Division said the Inspector General of Police made the appointment based on service requirements.

The position became vacant after Shani Abeysekara, who previously served as CID Director, received a promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).

Abeysekara will continue to oversee the CID as the DIG in charge of the department, while Amarasinghe takes on the director’s responsibilities.

The arrangement allows the CID to retain continuity in its senior leadership while Amarasinghe assumes the director’s role.
