Navodayapuram Housing Project Handed Over to 50 Landslide-Affected Families

Navodayapuram Housing Project Handed Over to 50 Landslide-Affected Families

Fifty families who lost their homes in the 2023 Poonagala-Kabaragala landslide have received new houses under the Navodayapuram Housing Project.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake handed over the completed project to the families today.

The landslide destroyed the families’ homes in 2023. Since then, they have spent nearly three and a half years living in unsafe conditions.

The new housing now gives the families a permanent place to live.

The Sri Lanka Army Corps of Engineers played an active role in building the project.

The project provides new homes for 50 families from the Malayagam community who lost their homes in the landslide.

Three and a Half Years After the Landslide

The families faced difficult living conditions while waiting for permanent housing.

The completion of the Navodayapuram project now allows them to move into their own homes.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, President Dissanayake said people in the Malayagam community should enjoy the same rights and dignity as other citizens.

He also thanked the organisations and people who helped complete the project.

The President gave particular recognition to the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Engineers for its role in the construction work.

The handover brings the housing project to completion and gives all 50 families a permanent home after nearly three and a half years of temporary living.
