Corporate support remains vital for athletes as they prepare for major international competitions. Dialog Axiata has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Sri Lankan sport by recognising Commonwealth Games medallists Rumesh Tharanga and Palitha Bandara following their success at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The company honoured the two athletes at its headquarters after the public parade held on 5 August to celebrate Sri Lanka’s Commonwealth Games team. Dialog Group Chief Executive Supun Weerasinghe presented commemorative gifts to both athletes in recognition of their achievements.
Supporting athletes beyond the podium
Rumesh Tharanga became the first Sri Lankan track and field athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Meanwhile, Palitha Bandara added to the country’s success by winning a silver medal in para-athletics.
Dialog said its support extends beyond celebrating medal-winning performances. As the Official Telecommunications Partner of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka until the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, the company continues to support athletes throughout their international journey.
Long-term investment in Sri Lankan sport
In addition to its Olympic partnership, Dialog has supported the development of para sports in Sri Lanka for the past 26 years as the principal sponsor of the national para sports programme.
The continued backing from the private sector gives athletes greater support as they prepare for future international competitions. It also highlights the role corporate partnerships can play in strengthening Sri Lanka’s sporting development beyond individual events.
