PMB Purchases Nearly 20,000 Metric Tons of Paddy as During Yala Harvest

PMB Purchases Nearly 20,000 Metric Tons of Paddy as During Yala Harvest

The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has purchased 19,592 metric tons of paddy since July as it expands its Yala season purchasing program across the country.

The board is continuing to buy paddy without interruption while opening additional storage facilities in harvesting areas. The move aims to ensure farmers can sell their harvest through the government’s purchasing programme as more crops become ready for collection.

More warehouses to support farmers

PMB Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda said more than 100 warehouses are already operating to support paddy purchases.

He said the board will continue opening additional warehouses based on harvesting activity in each area. This will give farmers easier access to government purchasing centres throughout the harvesting season.

Pinnalanda noted that only a limited number of warehouses are currently operating in the Polonnaruwa District because harvesting has not yet started in all parts of the district.

Purchasing network to expand

The PMB will open more storage facilities as harvesting begins in other areas.

The expanded warehouse network is expected to improve access to the government’s purchasing programme and support the smooth collection of paddy during the Yala harvest.
