Sri Lanka Among World’s Biggest Improvers in Investor Confidence Report

Sri Lanka Among World’s Biggest Improvers in Investor Confidence Report

Sri Lanka is gaining more recognition from international investors after recording one of the biggest improvements in investor confidence among countries assessed by the Institute of International Finance (IIF).

According to the IIF’s 2026 Investor Relations and Debt Transparency Assessment, Sri Lanka’s Investor Relations Country Score increased by 6.3 points, placing the country among the strongest improvers alongside Vietnam, Belize and Mozambique.

The report links the improvement to the government’s Investor Relations Programme, introduced by the Ministry of Finance in December 2024. The programme focuses on giving international investors better access to information about the country’s economy, public finances and debt.

The assessment also recognised improvements in how Sri Lanka shares information about its debt. The country scored 11.25 out of 13 for debt transparency, placing it among the leading performers for making debt-related information available.

In addition, Sri Lanka received 3.25 out of 4 for sharing information on environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies. The IIF identified the country as one of the most improved in this area.

The report noted that many countries improved their debt reporting this year. However, the country was among those making the biggest gains.

The IIF said countries that provide clear and regular financial information often build greater confidence among investors. As a result, they may find it easier to attract investment and borrow money at lower costs, even during periods of global financial uncertainty.

Sri Lanka’s latest results suggest that recent efforts to improve transparency are beginning to gain international recognition. At the same time, providing regular updates on government finances, debt and economic policies could help the country strengthen investor confidence and support future access to international funding.
