Accessing assistance while working overseas can often be difficult, particularly when workers need to report grievances or follow up on unresolved cases. A new government-backed mobile application aims to simplify that process by bringing multiple support services into a single digital platform.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, together with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), launched the LankaKonect Complaint Management Application (CMA) on 16 June 2026 to strengthen support services for migrant workers around the world.
Developed with technical support from Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the free mobile application allows migrant workers to submit complaints, request assistance, track case progress, and access important information through a single platform.
One Platform for Complaints and Support
The application was officially launched by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijith Herath at a ceremony in Colombo.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra, ILO Country Director Joni Simpson, representatives of diplomatic missions, senior government officials, development partners, and other stakeholders attended the event. Representatives of overseas missions also joined virtually.
According to the organisers, the application was developed through a partnership involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, the ILO, and the SLBFE, with technical support from SLT.
The platform allows users to submit complaints and requests for assistance regardless of their country of employment, while enabling them to monitor the progress of their cases in real time.
Addressing a Long-Standing Gap
A key objective of LankaKonect is to improve coordination among institutions responsible for handling migrant worker welfare issues.
The application digitally integrates complaint management processes across the SLBFE, the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, and overseas missions and posts.
This integration is expected to improve case monitoring, reduce delays, and support faster responses to complaints and welfare concerns raised by workers abroad.
More Than a Complaint Management Tool
Authorities said the application evolved beyond its original purpose following consultations between government institutions and development partners.
In addition to complaint management, LankaKonect provides access to information and services relevant to individuals living overseas for employment, education, or residential purposes.
The platform is designed to help users remain connected with government institutions throughout their overseas journey.
Available Free of Charge
The application is available free of charge through both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Officials said the launch forms part of broader efforts to improve digital public services and make government support more accessible to citizens living overseas.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen protection mechanisms for migrant workers by providing a direct and accessible channel to seek assistance whenever needed.
