The banking sector is set to witness the completion of one of its notable acquisition transactions, with DFCC Bank confirming a timeline for taking over the wealth and retail banking operations of Standard Chartered Bank’s local branch.
In a market filing, DFCC Bank announced that the proposed acquisition is expected to be completed on or before July 31, 2026.
The lender also stated that a further announcement will be made once the transaction has been formally completed.
Deal Announced Last Year
DFCC Bank first announced the acquisition in November last year (2025).
At the time, the bank revealed that it had reached an agreement to acquire the retail banking and wealth management business of Standard Chartered Bank’s local operations for Rs. 3.7 billion.
The transaction forms part of DFCC Bank’s efforts to expand its customer base and strengthen its presence in the retail and wealth management segments.
Completion Delayed Beyond Initial Timeline
When the acquisition was announced, DFCC Bank had expected the transaction to be completed during the early part of 2026.
The bank also stated that the acquisition would be funded through internal resources.
The latest market disclosure indicates that the process is now approaching its final stages, with completion targeted before the end of July.
What the Acquisition Means
The transaction will transfer Standard Chartered’s wealth and retail banking portfolio to DFCC Bank upon completion.
The acquisition is expected to expand DFCC Bank’s reach within the personal banking and wealth management sectors while adding new customers and assets to its portfolio.
