4,988 Dance Performers Set New Bharatanatyam Guinness World Record

A total of 4,988 Bharatanatyam artists participated in the ‘Sangamam 2026’ festival at Galle Face Green on June 14, setting a new Guinness World Record, organisers confirmed.

The performance surpassed the previous record of 416 participants and was officially verified by Guinness World Records following an on-site assessment.

Record Attempt Verified

The record attempt was monitored by Rishi Nath, who travelled from the United Kingdom to observe and verify the performance.

Following the verification process, the adjudicator confirmed that the attempt had successfully established a new Guinness World Record.

Event Organised With India Collaboration

The programme was organised under the guidance and concept of Deputy Minister of Plantation Infrastructure and Community Development Sundaralingam Pradeep.

The event was jointly coordinated by Sangamam Global Academy and Sangamizh Liya Holidays.

Artists from both Sri Lanka and India participated in the large-scale Bharatanatyam performance.

Organisers said the initiative originated from a request made by the Deputy Minister during the Aayalagha Tamilar Maanadu held in India, which helped facilitate collaboration for the event.

Cultural Event Draws Thousands

The festival brought together thousands of dancers in a coordinated performance at Galle Face Green, making it one of the largest Bharatanatyam gatherings recorded.

Organisers said the event was aimed at promoting cultural ties and showcasing Bharatanatyam on an international stage.
