Households are facing another increase in energy costs.
Litro Gas Lanka has announced a revision of LP gas prices, effective from midnight on 10 March, pushing up the cost of domestic cooking gas across the country.
Under the new pricing structure, the 12.5 kg gas cylinder has increased by Rs. 300, bringing the price to Rs. 3,990.
Meanwhile, the 5 kg cylinder has risen by Rs. 120, setting the new price at Rs. 1,602.
The 2.3 kg cylinder has also been adjusted, increasing by Rs. 56 to Rs. 750.
Accordingly, the revised domestic LP gas prices in the Colombo District are:
• 12.5 kg cylinder – Rs. 3,990
• 5 kg cylinder – Rs. 1,602
• 2.3 kg cylinder – Rs. 750
The gas price revision follows a broader surge in energy costs.
Just a day earlier, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (Ceypetco) increased fuel prices amid rising global oil prices linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Under the new fuel pricing:
• Auto Diesel increased by Rs. 22 to Rs. 303 per litre
• Super Diesel increased by Rs. 24 to Rs. 353 per litre
• Petrol 92 Octane increased by Rs. 24 to Rs. 317 per litre
• Petrol 95 Octane increased by Rs. 25 to Rs. 365 per litre
• Kerosene increased by Rs. 13 to Rs. 195 per litre

About the other institutions:
Lanka IOC has also aligned its fuel prices with the revised rates announced by Ceypetco.
Economists say the pressure is coming from global markets.
Speaking on the Ada Derana Big Focus programme, Professor Priyanga Dunusinghe from the University of Colombo warned that authorities must prepare for further increases in domestic energy prices.
He explained that Brent crude oil prices, which traded between $92 and $93 per barrel last week, surged to around $115 per barrel when global markets reopened on Monday.
If the trend continues, higher global oil prices could push up petrol, diesel, gas, and electricity generation costs, particularly where fuel is used for power production.
For households and businesses alike, the message is becoming clear.
As global oil markets tighten, energy costs at home are beginning to rise once again.
