Laugfs Gas says it has ordered new gas stocks for delivery to the Colombo Port and will resume islandwide distribution once the shipment arrives.
The move follows reports of shortages over the past few days, which led to public concern and questions in Parliament.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa raised the issue, seeking clarification from Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe over the supply disruption.
Minister Samarasinghe said the shortage developed over the past two weeks after Laugfs suspended distribution. As a result, many consumers shifted to Litro Gas.
To ease the pressure, authorities will release 1,500 metric tons of gas today, tomorrow and Saturday.
The minister also said officials have instructed Laugfs Gas to resolve its distribution issues without delay. The company expects its next shipment to arrive on February 25.
Authorities say the fresh supply should stabilise the market and reduce consumer pressure in the coming days.
