A new high-benefit pension scheme for fishermen has been introduced by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in collaboration with the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board.
The scheme aims to provide long-term income security for fishermen after retirement.
Flexible Contributions Based on Income
According to the Ministry, the pension plans allow fishermen to contribute based on their financial capacity and personal choice.
Under the scheme, contributors can select monthly pension plans that suit their income levels. Available pension amounts include Rs. 5,000, Rs. 10,000, Rs. 15,000, Rs. 20,000, Rs. 25,000, or higher.
As a result, fishermen can plan their retirement savings without placing pressure on their daily earnings.
Monthly Pension After Age 60
Fishermen enrolled in the scheme will receive a monthly pension after the age of 60.
In addition, the pension amount increases at different age brackets after retirement, offering higher benefits as contributors grow older.
Insurance and Family Protection Included
Another key feature of the scheme is the life insurance cover provided to contributors.
Moreover, in the event of the pensioner’s death, the pension will be transferred to the spouse, ensuring continued financial support for the family.
Officials stated that the scheme is designed to enhance social protection for fishermen while providing flexible and sustainable retirement options.
