The Bank said the note includes several modern security features that help the public identify genuine currency and avoid counterfeit notes.
Light-Based Security Features
When people hold the note up to the light, they can clearly see the Lion with Sword watermark and a full see-through image. The design also includes micro text, which forms part of the note’s security layout.
These features allow users to quickly check the note without using any special equipment.
Colour and Movement-Based Checks
When the note is tilted, the security thread changes colour from blue to green. The thread also displays the Colombo Lighthouse Clock Tower and the “2000” denomination.
These changes help users confirm authenticity through simple visual movement.
Touch and Machine-Readable Features
Raised printing appears on the denomination value and the Bank’s name. Users can feel these raised areas by touch. The note also includes six tactile bars to help visually impaired users identify the currency.
Under ultraviolet light, the anniversary theme and skyline glow in dual fluorescent colours. The denomination also becomes visible, which allows machines to verify the note during cash handling.
The Central Bank has urged the public to rely on these built-in security features when checking currency notes.
